You guys sent so many pictures this year I decided to split them up. One page for Europe, one for the

Even though I read those books already some years ago, I heard of it not until some months ago. A very nice idea, but it seems as if it is pretty unknown in Germany, yet. Even other Douglas fans haven't known about this as I posted it in some forum. (And they report that they are/were the only ones who carry in the uni/school *g*) Anyway, this year I'm participating and I got a photo, too :D. Another application for using a towel: Use it to disguise yourself as a pirate if you ever have to infiltrate a (space)pirate ship ;)

towel_day.jpg is taken at home, kuva85.jpg is from my work. I work in a grocery shop and despite the dress code (green jacket, blue pants), I kept my "tuned" towel with me whole evening, hanging on my waist ;) Customers looked pretty suspicious :] kuva82.jpg is from a local kebab place where I grabbed a pizza. There too, my towel caught everyone's attention. "Maybe" it was those markings on it ;)

Hi, hier unser Handtuchtag

Klaus from Germany and his friend Bart.

A letter from Germany that says:

I'm Maxx and here my Picture from May 25th in 2005. This is an impression from the bicycle-tour "Tour de Prignitz 2005" in Germany. More than 700 people biked from Kyritz to Perleberg (ca. 50 km), but I was the only one with a towel :-/.

But a lot of bikers aksed me, how I toke my towel with me, and I told them about Douglas Adams, the "Hitchhikers Guide", the movie (starting in Germany in some days), the using possibilities of the towel and also about this day in memorial of D.A.

So I think I'll be not alone in the next year :-)

Nadja from Finland, writes to say:

I sure had an odd day, the busdriver must've thought I have bats in the bellfry when I entered the bus with a bag and a towel hanging from my shoulder. Man, I could just see from the people's faces how they asked themselves: "Why the dilly-yo that girl has a TOWEL on her shoulder?" and then I bursted into a loud laugh when I thought about that. What a day.

Spang from Hungary writes to say:

Apart from carrying my towel with me, my celebration was constituted of buying a cone of ice cream. Don’t Panic

Harry from Austria writes to say:

I'm from Austria and I send you a photo from my Towel Day in the Café Qualtinger in Kapfenberg, Styria. Hi, my name is Jason (34) and I am from London (Teddington) to be exactly
precise. And I was in Charleston, South Carolina for World Towel Day. I took
my trusty towel with me from London and not just any old towel either! It is
my cherished Hitchhikers towel I have had for many many years. I carried it
around all day and the picture I have sent was taken by my Fiance Claire
outside the Palmetto Grand cinema in Mt Pleasant South Carolina. I had just
seen the new movie for the second time (which I think is a very good movie).

StarMan writes to say:

I'm a finnish guy and I was in Norway taking a holiday last week and - believe it or not - unawere of this towelday.
Despite that I did have my towel with me and took a picture of it. And, yes, it is the one that says "don't panic".
I was hiking that day in the mountains and weather was nice. Litle did I know that during the night a storm would
be upon me and I'd have to evacuate (approximately five hours after the picture was taken). Needles to say I did
not panic, alltough I'm not sure all that was because of the towel... but I suppose it helped. It doubled as a scarf
and a pillow besides being a towel. Yep, old D.A. was right. I took a picture with the towel. At the time it was just
my own joke to have something fun to show when I returned but here it is to you too.

Szöszi, Viktoria and Ademaro from Pecs, Hungary.

Viktor Fónagy and Ákos Tóth from Eger, Hungary.

Markus from Austria writes to say:
Hello, I hope my English isn’t to bad and you understand me even without a babelfish. On Towel Day I had to go to University like every day, because in Austria the 25th May isn’t a statutory holiday yet. But we’re still working on in. :)
The first picture shows me (Markus), my sister Margit and Helmut with our original H2G2 towels on TowelDay 2005 in the famous WestsidePub in Klagenfurt, Austria. I’ve got these towels at the world premier of the H2G2 movie in London, where I also took the next three pictures.

They show me and Sylvia with a pan galactic gargle blaster in front of one of the elegant gazelle- like creatures with silken coats and dewy eyes which the Vogons would catch and sit on. They were no use as transport because their backs would snap instantly, but the Vogons sat on them anyway. Finally I’ve got a photo of a dancing Vogon at the after show party.

So long, and thanks for the TowelDay
Markus Lang, Klagenfurt, Austria

Andreas from Germany writes to say:
